In 1931, in the height of the Great Depression, a man named W.W. Estes bought a used Chevrolet truck to haul farm produce and supplies in southwest Virginia. With neither a driver's seat nor windshield glass, W.W. handled his first load behind the wheel by sitting on an upturned crate and looking through a discarded window.
The motor carrier W.W. founded , Estes Express Lines, is still owned and operated by the Estes family. It has been transformed from a small local carrier into a $1 billion transportation services company with more than 13,000 employees and 27,000 tractors and trailers. A steadfast committment to customer service makes it one of the most respected, multi-regional, LTL transportation systems in the country. Its most recent growth spurt came in 2005 with the acquisition of California-based G.I. Trucking Company.
Continuous improvement in performance, service reliability a solid financial base has created a legacy of customer loyalty that has driven over seven decades of sensible expansion.x
